We as Trinity Episcopal Church Family Ministries aspire to build relationships in order to create a faith community that is welcoming and engaging to the Trinity Family at all stages of life.
Trinity welcomes all children and youth to participate in Trinity's Sunday School program. Nursery care is available during 10:00 am Sunday Services and select church events. (Parents receive a pager in case the Nursery Care Supervisor needs to contact them during the service.) Our Sunday School format follows the Discovering God/Eye on God Curriculum.
Our Christmas Pageant will be during the 10:00 am service on 12/23. Get your cameras ready and invite the grandparents! We invite kids in grades 2-12 to join our youth choir for this year’s Christmas Pageant. The youth choir will meet after church on 11/11, 11/18, 12/9 & 12/16 to prepare a song for the Christmas pageant. Participants should be able to read, as the song will have more words than our typical offerings. We will try out some harmonies as well!
Sunday School begins with Music/Art/Games. Children's Formation starts with 20 to 30 minutes of singing and games. A portion of this time will be used to practice music that will be shared as a musical offering on occasion. Around 10:00 am, children will then transition into their respective Sunday School Rooms.
Children are ALWAYS welcome in church and we appreciate and respect that some families prefer to worship together for the full service, while others opt to participate in our Sunday school program
Sunday School Classes:
Children will divide into classes based roughly on their ages (we will work with you to make sure your child is in an appropriate classroom). We have three classes:
- 0-3 years: Our infants and toddlers meet in the nursery for songs and a short story using a Godly Play curriculum.
- 4 years - 1st grade: We use Godly Play for our pre-school / young elementary kids as well. In this class, children experience a new bible story and then choose from different activities to better understand the week's lesson and explore God.
- 2nd – 5th grade: the older elementary kids participate in a Building In Christ Lego program where they interpret the bible through Legos.
- Youth who are in 6th grade and up are encouraged to participate in the whole worship service or to assist in Sunday school classrooms.
The first Sunday of each month, we have our "all ages service". In these weeks, children continue to meet at 9:30 for music / art & games, and then head upstairs to participate in the full service instead of attending a formal Sunday School class.
We ask that all families register for Sunday school each year. You can download more information about our program along with our simple registration form here.
The “soft space” at the front of the sanctuary makes it easier for children in worship to be involved in what is happening by making it easier for them to see and participate. In this space we also provide age-appropriate materials for children to use during worship. We developed this space over the summer and will continue to make it available to our children.
Kids Helping Others
PADS is an organization which set up temporary homeless shelters through Chicagoland. We support this ministry by offering our building as a site on Monday evenings. Our children support this work by decorating bags used to distribute lunches to our guests. Once a month we begin the process of making those lunches by putting chips and cookies into the decorated bags.
