History of Trinity Church

 

1875

Trinity is established as a mission.

1881

A sixty foot lot at the corner of North West and West Wesley Streets is purchased.

1882

Trinity Episcopal Church is consecrated by Bishop McLaren on June 20.

1893

A Guild Hall is built to the west of the Chapel.

1894

An additional fifty feet of land to the south is purchased.

1910

A rectory is built on a lot on Wesley Street donated by Miss Drummond.

1917

Reverend Frank Hobart Millett publishes the first issue of the Trinity Church Messenger.

1924

The Guild Hall is moved parallel to the church and a parish house is built with an entrance tower at the southeast corner of the new hall.

1929

Trinity becomes a parish.

1947

The mortgage from the 1924 construction of the parish house is ceremoniously burned.

1959

The new church building is dedicated.

1974

Chapel is restored and renovated.

1975

A centennial stained glass window, donated by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ockerlund, is installed on the south wall of the Chapel.

1978

Trinity Chapel is placed on the National Registry of Historic Places by the U. S. Department of the Interior (National Park Service) and the State of Illinois.

1998

Expansion construction and renovation of Millett Hall, kitchen, Winkler Parlor, classrooms, offices, and cloister is dedicated.

2000

125th anniversary of the founding of Trinity Episcopal Church.
