Reaching out to provide a spiritual community for the students, faculty, and staff associated with the universities and colleges of Chicago’s South Loop, the South Loop Campus Ministry is a mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, LuMin (Lutheran Campus Ministry Network), and the Metro Chicago Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The home base for SLCM is Grace Episcopal Church on South Dearborn, Printer’s Row, Chicago.
SLCM describes themselves as: “… (seeking) to create space for fierce conversations that inspire active lives of faith through service, justice, fellowship, worship, and prayer. We are explicit in our celebration and affirmation of our LGBTQIA2+ siblings and we invite you to join us no matter your race, religion, creed, color, sexual orientation, gender-identity, age, ability, documentation status, or any other way that we are often categorized, boxed, and excluded by society”.
Students can share in outreach to the neighborhood homeless, online worship, in person prayer circles, game and movie nights, and seasonal parties, all of which create a strong, faith-filled community. More information, and notably their annual report, is available online: https://www.southloopcampusministry.org/academicyearreport
