Trinity Labyrinth

Welcome to the Trinity Labyrinth

The classical 7-walled labyrinth came into being about 4500 years ago. It appeared simultaneously in places as diverse as Cornwall (England), Crete, Arizona, and Sumatra. It is as if this pattern broke through into human consciousness everywhere and in "learning" or walking it, one is simply being reminded. A labyrinth has a single, winding, unobstructed path from the outside to the center, unlike a maze which has many dead ends and wrong choices designed to trick the mind. Therefore, the labyrinth is often seen as a metaphor for our spiritual "life" journey; many twists and turns but no dead ends. In other words, we always have the opportunity to make another choice in life or "turn" in the labyrinth.

The Trinity Labyrinth is a smaller version of the ancient classical 7-walled form. Located in the front courtyard of the church, surrounded by the lovely gardens adjacent to the historical chapel and columbarium, it has 5 courses and is a perfect introduction to labyrinth assisted meditation. The labyrinth is constructed of brick and turf – the bricks outline the pattern and the walking path is grass. Its size is ideal for one or two to walk simultaneously, and it is accessible for those with limited sight or mobility.

The chance to release both mental and physical tension by walking a labyrinth is there for each individual. The labyrinth is a powerful tool to help your mind and body relax. In addition, those people who find it difficult to sit still and meditate or pray will find the perfect outlet in the moving meditation that is the labyrinth experience. It is at once kinesthetic and introspective, a complete mind-body integrative activity.

Download the instructional guide. The guide includes additional history of labyrinths and suggestions on how to walk the path for meditation. The labyrinth is available dawn to dusk, 7 days a week.
