Episcopal Charities and Community Services

ECC LogoFor nearly 60 years, God has used this ministry to transform thousands of lives in the Diocese of Chicago. Today, this life-changing social outreach is accomplished through ECCS’ support of its ministry partners and, increasingly, through its New Ventures and Capacity Building initiatives. Over the next two months, a series of short articles will help you understand this organization which is a not-for-profit organization serving agencies affiliated with the Episcopal Church. It is governed by an independent board of trustees and the Bishop of Chicago is an ex-officio member of the board.

You may find more information about Episcopal Charities on their website, www.eccsonline.net. Julie Nelligan and Beth Petti are current board members and would be happy to discuss Episcopal Charities with you if you have further questions.

Central DuPage Pastoral Counseling Center

Some of you may not be familiar with them. Very soon after its inception in 1976, Trinity became an affiliate board member along with several other local churches (now numbering more than 20), providing support for their many services. Central DuPage Pastoral Counseling Center is a wonderful resource, providing a place for healing and hope. People commonly mistake pastoral counseling for pastors. In reality, pastoral counseling is practiced by licensed mental health professionals who integrate theology with the healing process of psychotherapy, and they work with people from all walks of life. If you, a family member, or a friend, are interested in professional counseling services, you might consider CDPCC. They are located in the nearby Mona Kea Medical Park, and they can be reached at 630-752-9750. For more information, go to their very informative website: www.cdpcc.org.

Find a quiet place, gently close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Prepare to pray the Psalm in five consecutively diminishing sentences.
  • Either aloud or quietly to yourself, say the words, "Be still and know that I am God."
  • After a couple deep breaths, pray, "Be still and know that I am."
  • After a couple deep breaths, pray, "Be still and know."
  • After a couple deep breaths, pray, ""Be still."
  • After a couple deep breaths, pray, ""Be."
The pause between each phrase can be lengthened depending on your need.
