The Rev. David Fisher
Priest Associate
The Rev. David Fisher is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at North Central College in Naperville. He received a BA in history (Carleton College, 1965), an MA in religion and drama (Columbia University – Union Theological Seminary, 1967), and a Ph.D. in philosophical theology (Vanderbilt University, 1976). He taught courses in philosophy of law, ethics, and contemporary philosophy in the Department of Philosophy and on “Ancient Israel and Greece” and “Roman and Christian Thought” for the History of Ideas program (interdisciplinary honors). He retired from full-time teaching in June, 2014.
Since his ordination as an Episcopal priest in 1976, Fr. David has served parishes in the dioceses of Tennessee, Iowa, Western Michigan, California and Chicago in various capacities – Priest in Charge, Interim Rector and as Assisting Priest or Priest Associate. In these positions he’s led adult formation as well as presiding and preaching, and has taught both New Testament and Theology for the School for Deacons in Chicago. He currently serves on a leadership team which shares responsibility for oversight, support and growth of the diaconate in the Diocese of Chicago.
He has three children (all boys) and five grandchildren (four boys and one girl), and is married to Dr. Sarah B. Fowler (Sally). Sally also taught at North Central in a variety of fields including philosophy (philosophy of art), art (art history), and information science (Web design). She’s retired from teaching but very active on several internet web sites, including “Travelers to Go” and “Cruise Critic” – and as the family travel agent!!
Since retiring David has done long-term supply work at a number of congregations. Earlier this year he and Fr. Kevin had a conversation about joining Trinity as an assisting priest. In this non stipendiary role David will be preaching, presiding and teaching.
