Open the heavens, Holy Spirit, for us to see Jesus interceding for us; may we be strengthened to share his baptism, strengthened to share his cup and ready to serve him forever. Collect - The Baptism of the Lord, New Zealand Prayer Book.
Each year for Christmas there seems to be at least one new calendar purchased for someone in our family. This year I bought a horse calendar for our daughter-in-law (she owns her own horse). The title of the calendar is ―What Horses Teach Us‖ and along with a picture of a beautiful horse each month contains tidbits of wisdom of ―life’s lessons learned from our equine friends‖ When I read the monthly captions they struck me as possible resolutions for the new year:
- a little peace and quiet will calm both you and your soul;
- cherish the simple things in life;
- stay close to your friends;
- kick up your heels now and then;
- companionship may be found in unexpected places.

The February meeting of the Prayer Shawl Ministry will be Wednesday, February 8th at 12:00 noon in Millett Hall. Prayer shawls and lap blankets are given out for many reasons. It can be for a special occasion i.e. wedding, anniversary, or graduation. It can also be given to someone who is sick or experiencing difficult circumstances. We have a good supply of both shawls and blankets. If you wish to give someone a shawl or blanket, please call the office 630-665-1101, Joanne Furnish 630-585-5807 or Ellen Huber 630-682-4859. A donation to the Prayer Shawl Ministry would be appreciated. |
